USAPA Ratings Update!

13 Jul 2018 by Jenn

USAPA Members:

We are excited about the high level of interest in the USAPA Tournament Player Rating (UTPR) from our members. The feedback that you have provided so far during the Player Review Phase is a tremendous help in improving the accuracy of the rating system. We are able to report that out of 26,500 members, less than 3% have reported a rating issue. This is not unexpected during a transition of this nature and magnitude. However, as we previously stated, it is the primary goal of the USAPA Ratings Committee for the ratings to be as accurate as possible.

With that goal in mind, during the Player Review Phase: For all USAPA Sanctioned Tournaments, players will register, or play in tournaments they’ve already registered in, using his/her legacy rating. This includes the 2018 USAPA National Tournament.
The new UTPR ratings will not be in effect until the Player Review Phase has completed.

Things to know about your legacy rating:
The legacy rating is the rating a player had under the subjective system, prior to July 9, 2018. To view your legacy rating click here to login to your Member Profile.*
If you did not have a legacy rating, you will need to request a self-rating from the USAPA following the Self-Rate Guidelines on the USAPA website. Note: If you do have a new UTPR available, we may use that as a foundation for adding your temporary self-rating. If you were scheduled to receive a 7/1 or 9/1 legacy rating update, you will receive a separate communication with details.
Any rating changes that we make to the legacy system will be overridden when the UTPR goes live at the end of the Player Review Phase.

Remember, during this phase, it remains critical that all tournament players take time to review his/her player history and report any errors to MatchReview@PickleballTournaments.com. This is also an opportunity to request a general review of your calculated rating if the UTPR rating is more than 1 full point different than your legacy rating and you feel this is in error.

We anticipate the Player Review Phase will take approximately 60 days to complete. At the conclusion, all members and tournament directors will be notified and additional instructions will be provided.
